ALUMNI PORTRAIT 2

LUCIE LANSEMAN
Promo #2
Project: Screen Spirit

interviewed on 02/02/2024

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Lucie Lanseman, I'm 25 years old and I've just completed a career in cinema (production and exhibition) and artistic and cultural education (project development, audiences, communication).

What prompted you to take part in the Futura Cinema incubation programme?

I saw the appeal for the first edition. I was unemployed at the time, and my head was full of ideas! I applied, but I didn't get in the first year. I applied again the following year, this time with a new ‘Twitch’ background as I'd set up my own channel in between, and gone back to study for a Masters. I really wanted to create something that would bring together my different skills in film and project editing, with my affinity for digital. This was the ideal place for me!

Did you have a project when you joined the programme? If so, how did the programme contribute to its development?

I wanted to do something on the Twitch platform, but it was very vague. I applied with ‘a project’, thinking that I'd have a better chance of being taken on. In the end, I was chosen for my skills rather than the project (which wasn't really a project at that stage). The programme enabled me to meet people who shared the same desires and affinities as me, and together we were able to develop and then bring to fruition the Screen Spirit project, the meeting between cinemas and Twitch, through a programme and a festival.

The programme really gave us the freedom to explore all sorts of avenues based on our initial ideas, before settling on something ambitious but achievable. Every stage was important: the outline of the project, the structure, the business model... everything was done so that we could leave the incubator with all the cards in our hand to make the project a reality.

Do you have a highlight to share from your incubator adventure?

My highlight of the incubator was the fondue at the Les Arcs festival! It was a very inspiring and important stage, where we worked on the festival's configuration. We were invited to a fondue as part of the festival, in a little snow-covered chalet - it was truly magical! But above all, it gave us a chance to get together with other participants, not necessarily members of my team. We were able to mix discussions about each other's projects with personal discussions. It gave rise to affinities between the projects too, and fed the development of the projects (and our stomachs).

Today, has the project developed during the incubation year seen the light of day? What has it become?

Thanks to Futura Cinema, we applied with Le Concorde cinema (Nantes) to the Europa Cinemas ‘Collaborate to Innovate’ call for projects, which enabled us to secure our first funding. The project was officially launched in October 2023. So the shows were able to start, at the rate of one a month - a two-hour show about cinema, filmed in cinemas and in public, broadcast live on Twitch. After the show, there's a drinks reception and a film for the audience in the cinema. At the moment, we're working on making it a bi-monthly programme, so that all the partner cinemas in the project (9 of them!) can benefit from it. And of course, we're preparing for the festival, which will take place from 25 to 28 April 2024!
