ALUMNI

Cohort #3 (2024)

8 projects incubated for the class of 2024

The 3rd edition of the incubation programme brought together 54 participants from 8 regions, divided into 8 teams. From video games in cinemas to impact creation, virtual reality screenings, a cinema in a church and a revolutionary iconographic research tool, the participants are harnessing their collective intelligence to meet the major challenges facing independent cinema at a time of revival: winning back audiences, rehabilitating cinema in theatres as part of young people's cultural practices and setting up a collective innovation dynamic between independents.

These projects were unveiled in detail at the final stage of the incubation programme, during the Les Arcs Summit in December 2024.

Are you interested in these projects? Are you a cinema or film distributor interested in trying out one of the projects?

MOVIEMATON - JURY PRIZE and HONOURABLE MENTION from the REGION GRAND EST

The MOVIEMATON is an innovative device that captures the reactions of spectators between screenings and allows them to leave with a photo souvenir bearing the image of the film/festival/theatre, transforming the cinema lobby into a space for expression and sharing. This system engages the community, generates visibility on social networks and offers festivals, exhibitors and distributors unprecedented communication opportunities. By collecting valuable data on audience preferences, it becomes a strategic tool for federating, prescribing and creating innovative partnerships.

LA NEF - PROFESSIONAL’S FAVOURITES

A recent winner of the "Rouen reinvents its heritage" call for proposals, LA NEF is a project lead by the Sainte-Croix des Pelletiers church, a desanctified church in the centre of Rouen, turned into a hybrid venue: part local cinema, part concert hall, part flexible café, part wine bar.

Designed as a permanent festival, LA NEF's programming is free, collective, accessible and editorial. On the cinema side, cult films, nuggets and masterpieces from all eras and all continents. On the concert side, jazz, chamber music or chanson, the stage will accommodate all types of non-amplified music, from soloists to quintets. Of course, we also want to explore how the two complement each other, with film music concerts, film-concerts and listening sessions in the concert halls.

OCYTOCINÉ - MENTION SPÉCIALE DU JURY

OCYTOCINÉ: THE PLATFORM FOR A CINEMA THAT CREATES SOCIAL LINKS

OCYTOCINÉ is a mediation project centred on an innovative digital platform dedicated to showing films with a strong social impact that suffer from a lack of visibility in cinemas.

We believe in the power of cinema to build bridges, encourage public debate on contemporary issues and to inspire concrete, lasting change... With the aim of organising unifying events in cinemas and beyond, the platform offers :

- An editorial catalogue based on major themes (environment, equality, social justice), highlighting high-quality, high-impact works.

- A geolocalised network of venues, associations and contributors to local projects.

- A collaborative thematic diary, aligned with national/international events, to activate projects (screenings, debates, workshops).

- Practical tools for setting up related activities (film debates, workshops, events).

In the long term, we would also like to :

- Develop new indicators (emotional and societal impact of films).

- Create a new virtuous economy, by bringing together new financial partners (SSE, companies with a mission).

- Develop a community of actors and spectators who are sensitive to these values, and who are looking for oxytocin thanks to the cinema!

REFRACTIO

REFRACTIO : REINVENTING THE USE OF FILM ARCHIVES

REFRACTIO is a film scene search engine that creates new sources of revenue for rights holders. The platform simplifies iconographic research for audiovisual professionals by improving the discoverability of catalogues through the use of AI.

IMMERSIVE TERRITORIES

ARTDESIGNSTORY

ARTDESIGNSTORY, a Nantes-based start-up founded in 2017, is revolutionising cinema with its connected posters and immersive platform FANarZONE.

Connected posters are transforming film promotion by offering instant access to exclusive content via a QR code: trailers, behind-the-scenes footage and testimonials. These interactive touchpoints captivate viewers even before they take their seats in the cinema.

FANarZONE takes the experience a step further with augmented reality (AR) content: immersive sets, 3D avatars, animations and interactive games. Accessible worldwide, this intuitive platform enables exhibitors and distributors to personalise their campaigns and engage audiences through memorable, viral experiences.

ARTDESIGNSTORY has established itself as a key partner in modernising cinema, building audience loyalty and amplifying the impact of films well beyond their screening in cinemas.

KINO GAMES

KINO GAMES is a European project led by SpielFabrique and supported by Creative Europe. In partnership with 5 cinemas and 1 European festival, the mission is to test different models for events linking video games and films in cinemas. There are a number of objectives:
- Using video games as a lever to bring back specific audiences (young adults, children, etc.)
- Diversifying the content offered in cinemas
- Optimising cinema occupancy rates by attracting a different type of audience during off-peak periods
- Promoting European audiovisual content (video games and film)

The project is supported by Creative Europe for a period of 3 years. The team plans to test different models during the first 2 years, before verifying in the 3rd year the viability of this type of event in partner cinemas, in autonomy. Ultimately, the team hopes to be able to define a business model that can be applied in all cinemas in Europe, as well as proposing a distribution model for this type of content.

ŌMA CINEMA

The ŌMA CINEMA cinema aims to reinvent the cinematic experience through a unique and spectacular arrangement of spectators in the auditorium. This innovative architecture with its balcony system spread across the height of the screen reshapes the spectator's relationship with the image and thus rethinks the cinema outing. With the recent opening of the first Ōma cinema in the south of France, the team now wants to think about the "Ōma experience" as such, beyond its atypical architecture. This involves working on its brand, identity, communication, service offering, pre- and post-session experience, etc.
